When a friend told me about Pond’s Clean Sweep Cleansing and Makeup Removing Towelettes, I was a little skeptical. Sure, if it worked the convenience would be great — no more fussing with messy cleansers, just swipe and go! However, when I actually used the towelettes I was sorely disappointed with the results.
I don’t have a problem with the efficacy of their product, per se. It actually did a decent job removing all my makeup and cleansing my skin, but I discovered that it’s not that great for women with sensitive skin like I have. Considering these towelettes are both alcohol- and oil-free, I figure it wouldn’t be a problem. What’s more, the package even recommends this product for sensitive skin! In my case, they were wrong.
Within a day or so of using these towelettes, my skin started breaking out (small pimples, mind you, but pimples nonetheless!) and looked really irritated. Considering that this was the only new beauty product I’d introduced into my routine, I had to attribute these less-than-stellar reactions to the cleansing wipes.
I tried the cloths again on the off chance my skin reaction was just a fluke, but sure enough it did not respond well the second time around, either. I don’t know if Ponds just really dropped the ball on this one or if my skin is too sensitive for even sensitive skin products, but I wasn’t happy with the results at all. As soon as I stopped using these cloths, my face cleared up and I was back to normal.
I don’t want to discourage anyone from using this product, because they do remove makeup and dirt quite well. However, I’d be careful if you have super sensitive skin — try it on a small patch of skin first.
Overall, had it not been for my skin reaction, I was pleased with the cleansing power of these cloths. However, I won’t be using them again. If you’ve used these before or plan on trying them, please let me know how your experience was!
